Nigeen lake is far better if you want to have a relaxing stay at houseboat. It is less crowded with less vendors. The lake has beautiful view of mountains. The lake is very clean and well maintained. Nigeen lake is less noisy and you will feel connected to nature by hearing the sound of birds. The shikara ride is equally enjoyable here or you can give it a try at Dal lake. Spending an evening at houseboat and enjoying view with kehwa(kashmiri chai) or snacks adds more to the experience. The homefood served at medium budget houseboat is delicious. We enjoyed the stay at Nigeen lake in Srinagar.

Nigeen lake is serene and smaller as compared to dal lake. It has all the facilities available at dal lake. You can enjoy shikara ride and stay at one of the various houseboats lined up here similar to dal lake on one side. You will find all famous houseboat here. The photography in kashmiri dress during shikara ride is also available. You can even go for floating vegetable market in the morning where villagers exchange their stuff from one another. But for that you need to wake up at 5 a.m in the morning. Enjoying sunset at shikara ride or your houseboat balcony is amazing

Nigeen lake is somewhat far from the hustle bustle of city and offers very scenic view of mountains. In winters it gives view of snow capped mountains but it is often foggy in winters and clear view is rarely available. So it is better to plan Kashmir holiday in summer to enjoy clear view. However if you love snow, winters can be more enjoyable. This lake is small as compared to Dal lake but views and experience is equally good. It is important to choose good houseboat at good location with good view. The almond garden on lakeside is also good and you can visit during shikara ride

On my previous holiday we stayed at Dal Lake but this time we stayed at Nigeen lake. But I prefer Dal lake over Nigeen lake. Dal lake is huge with scenic beauty all around. A shikara ride at dal lake to char minar which is a island amidst lake is something not to be missed. Staying in houseboat at Dal lake was wonderful experience and we loved the traditional homelike food served at houseboat. In evening enjoying the beauty of dal lake from houseboat lobby with cool fresh air touching your soal is pleasurable. Dal lake is the main famous lake of Srinagar and Nigeen lake is the alternative option.

Staying at nigeen lake or dal lake is a difficult choice to make. Dal lake is more famous while nigeen lake gives you more serene experience. I stayed at Nigeen lake and it offers great view of mountains and is less crowded. One can also go to dal lake from here in shikara but it is not worth. The views are not good and it passes through villages and field. It takes more than one hour and it is better to do shikara ride at one of the lakes only. We stayed at Nigeen lake and went for shikara ride in dal lake. This way you can enjoy both the lakes and experience both.

We stayed at gurkha houseboat at nigeen lake and it gives you a royal experience. The lake is not as commercialized as dal lake and it is great place to relax. Sitting for hours in the front balcony of the houseboat both in the dawn and dusk hours was truly magical. The canopy is arranged at the balconies with tables so that you can enjoy your evening snacks specially if it rains. The sunset is the best part. The shikhara ride also takes you to almond garden located at the lake side. It is a nice garden where you can even go for morning or evening walk. Me and my family enjoyed it completely
