Travel Tips

The place is a sprawling orchard with apple, walnut, chinar, meswak and so many other trees. It is huge and very well maintained. It is good to take a stroll of entire garden. We got tired of walking around and just spend a good hour lying on the grass under the shady chinar trees. The trees are probably at least 200 years old. You can buy exotic flowering plant seeds from the gardeners there. You can enjoy some appetizing small eats at the food points located in the market outside the garden. The market is good for shopping souvenirs and other items as well.

Me and my family visited Nishat garden in April and simply loved it. The design of garden is that of huge staircase with fountain in middle. The garden was in bloom with a large variety of summer flowers including roses, dahlias, marigolds, zinnias, and other perennials and annuals. The distinct feature here is combination of water basins and cascading waterfalls that flow from the back of the garden to the front entrance. Kashmiri attire along with photographers is also available at nishat garden. You can get yourself photographed in kashmiri dress at this wonderful garden with flowers, fountains and dal lake in the background.

I visited nishat garden in winters and it is waste of time to visit this garden in winter as there is nothing much to see. There were no flowers, only shrubs and the trees not blooming at all. During winters you can enjoy the snow capped mountains surrounding the garden. But snow filled mountains can be sighted at many tourist points in Kashmir. So, it is better to skip this garden if you are visiting Srinagar in winters and utilize your time for other things. The gardens in Srinagar are definitely more interesting in spring or autumn when they are at bloom.

I visited Nishat garden during May last year when the view and variety of flowers was really worth watching. Entry ticket is about 20Rs and the garden has 7 levels with awesome views that must be visited during March to May of any year. I went to Nishat garden in the evening towards sunset time. The glimpse of sunset over the lake in front is amazing. I visited on a week day in May and the garden was full of tourists enjoying the garden, along with many young children swimming in the water basins. The garden is picturesque and a must visit during season.
