My Mumbai trip was fun. It was my first time in Mumbai. I was very excited as well as cautious. Every time I booked hotel or cab by searching online then haggled with the drivers to get the best possible deals. But I wanted to mention one incident, which was not a scam but something that every tourist ought to know. At the Churchgate station you’ll have to cross the platforms to go to the other side. While crossing if you are not careful you might get caught by the ticket checker and will be fined. I was fined for 100 bucks so my only advice to you guys would be to get platform ticket at Churchgate station for sure.

Mumbai is known to be an overcrowded city. In the humdrum of life, people are so busy these days that they don't have time for even themselves. Specially, the middle class people who travel by buses and trains in Mumbai. Mumbai is the hub centre for almost all types of professions and hence is an overcrowded place too. Pick pocketing has become one of the most common and favorite way of earning money for some people which is no less a crime. My personal experience has been very bad. Once my wallet was stolen in an overcrowded bus and it contained some 5,000 bucks and the other time my Iphone5 was stolen. Both the times I could not even think how this could even happen. But these Pickpocketers are way too smart and know all sorts of clever tricks to carry forward their actions. Be more vigilant and careful while travelling in any kind of public transport in Mumbai.

Hearing all the clamor about these taxi and hotel scam in Mumbai, I decided to play smart and book online my pickup and hotel for the night. This online agency showed me some pictures of the hotel, it looked quite decent and with some nice reviews also. I paid the money in advance through online transfer. But all this effort was for nothing in the end. The pickup was nice on time, though the cab was mini and I booked normal one but it didn’t bother me much. What made me mad was the hotel; it was altogether different from the place in the pictures. I got conned even by booking online so my experience in Mumbai was literally not good.

One of the many advices given to me when I visited Mumbai was to use the public transport as it will be cheaper and safe from scams. I followed the advice but the buses doesn’t seem to run to the central area, all of them refused and the only possible way left was to book a taxi. I booked a taxi and asked him the price. I was all ready to negotiate the prices and haggle but he said he’ll go by meter. I was relieved but when I reached my destination he asked 500 bucks that too according to meter. I protested but it was of no use as he actually showed me an official looking rate card. I cursed my luck but later that day only I understood the whole scenario when I asked another cab driver to show his rate card first before getting in.

One can’t ask more from Mumbai, vibrant city, night life, cheap hotels, heritage sites, easy transport, shopping hot spots and what not. One the amazing cities of India, One only need to be a little careful and not get lost in the shiny life of Mumbai. There are a lot of shops in Mumbai, crowded markets are on!!! But sometimes this crowded markets pulls scam on you and you don’t even realize. I was shopping in one of the markets, bought a few things but when I returned home I found most of them were not the same things that I purchased, they were exchanged. The only thing I got right was a pair of rugged jeans. Lost some money but overall it was amazing and I’m definitely going back.

I’ve visited Mumbai a few times and it was nice and smooth. I never got into trouble before but this time I was trapped. I took a taxi from my hotel to go to Bandra and in the middle of my journey someone entered my cab and took a seat beside me. I asked the driver but he only said it was a car pool kind of a ride that I booked which was very untrue . Anyways that was not much of discomfort but when he took me to another destination and said that is what I told him, he got on my nerves. I refused to pay him and told him to take me to my correct destination which he refused initially but when he saw I was not going to move he agreed. I had to pay some more extra bucks and lost time. Not so good trip guys!!!

I’m a travel addict and literally travelled half of the India. Now it was Mumbai’s turn. I’ve seen scam and got conned a few times myself but each time it is something new. You have to admit the brain of these people. I arrived in Mumbai at afternoon time. Outside the airport it was a little humid so decided to book an A/C cab from the pre-paid cab booth. I stared my journey but could still feel the humid weather. I asked the cab driver about the A/C he blatantly refused citing problems in the working but the scam part is I had already paid for an A/c cab. They deducted more money for the A/C that was not even working.
