1. The area outside the red fort is heavily crowded. Stay alert with your stuff. 2. Light and sound show is a must-see. 3. The first entry time is the best time to visit here. The crowd is less. The second is in the evening, before the light and sound show. 4. If you want to take a guide, check for the valid id card before hiring. 5. In best interest, carry limited cash.

The best way to save time during flights at the airports is to get your baggage marked as priority during checkin. The airline then makes your luggage as priority and sends your luggage out first on the arrival airport.

The best way to avoid traffic when moving between the airports and railway station is using the airport metro service. The New Delhi airport is separated from the Railway station by almost an hour by road. The Airport Metro directly connects you the railway station in as less as 19 minutes. Plus, you can avail the luggage carrier services at the New Delhi Railway Station which will reach you right upto the railway station entry.

Well it was my third time in Delhi when things could have taken an ugly turn. I arrived a little late in the evening usually I prefer daytime but this time my flight got delayed. So I took a taxi for my hotel, midway he took a turn and then we were on sort of a deserted road. I got a little scared I have to admit but then another thing happened, he stopped the car to get someone in the front seat. Now it was really intimidating so I called my friend and started talking to him. Entire time I stayed at the call and kept giving him my location. I don’t know the intentions of the driver but seeing me on phone with someone would have given him second thoughts (if he was up to something).

While catching our train from New Delhi railway station to Agra, a man posing as someone who worked at the station told us that our train has been cancelled. He informed us that we could book the next train at 7:10 (except the office didn’t open until 8:00). He then gave us the address of a travel agent and we took a taxi there. The travel agent told us that last minute tickets are not easy to come so we’ll have to pay extra money. We had to agree as we had to go to Agra at any cost. We were also charged extra on taxi fair. When we boarded that train we got to know no train was cancelled it was a scam with everyone involved in this

Tavelling in Delhi for single women is termed very risky and it turns quite true each time I visit Delhi. Most of the harassment occurs during the cab ride. Last month I visited Delhi and took a cab, the driver constantly kept looking at me through the rear view mirror. I had to mock him several times but it was of no use. Things took a severe turn when he asked if he could give a ride to one of his friend. I refused and resisted the idea but he kept pressing me to allow. But I knew what the consequences could be so I didn’t yield. It’s better to travel with someone or if necessary please keep your phones on during such rides

Reading before signing is important but it becomes pertinent in cities like Delhi. I booked a tour of Delhi from an agency after everything was finalized the travel agent brought some papers to sign. I thought it was a good thing because most of the travel agency refrains from such legal documents. He kept me busy when I was reading, constantly interrupting then I sensed something foul and started reading more cautiously and bingo!!!! There was a little clause that claimed no refund after cancellation and cancellation policy dependent on various silly things like feasible climate or availability of tickets of various places, all these were very subjective and entirely in the hands of our travel agent. I protested these clauses and made him remove them. Piece of advice please read before you sign, or it can burn a hole in your pocket.

My family was very excited to visit Delhi for the first time. We were staying with our relative so were safe from overcharging Delhi hotels but we couldn’t save ourselves from overcharging cabs. But it was all well and good for us except the overcharging auto’s and taxi’s. We hired a guide to take us and give us knowledge about different monuments. But he was sort of rushing through all the places. He took us to different shops, famous markets but always to those known to him (for earning commission). We did enjoy ourselves at India gate, lotus temple and other places. We didn’t face as such harassment in Delhi as it was hyped about. It was a nice relaxing trip for me and my family.

This time it was my worst experience in Delhi. It was my second time in Delhi when I got robbed of 90 thousand. There was an “incredible India” office just outside R K Ashram marg metro station where I made a booking about a month ago. It was a trip to Goa with my six buddies. We made the booking in a hurry but we never thought it could be a scam and we will never get to go on our trip. The office looked official and they were talking like professionals which took us under confidence. We paid the entire money in advance and now no one is there. There is no office there and now it’s all gone. They took our money as well as of some other people. I’ve booked a police complaint but no lead so far.

Delhiites are smart enough to exist in Delhi but for first time visitors from other cities and even foreigners it is important to be cautious while in the city. No matter how smart you are, the city has many difficulties waiting for you along with its beautiful history and monuments. I was travelling by train to Delhi and the moment I stepped out of railway station, cab drivers surrounded me. Some cab drivers even started pulling my luggage to place in their cabs. Always take a pre-paid taxi from railway station or airport. After a lot of trouble I took a taxi from pre paid counter. The taxi driver told me that he didn’t know the way and he suggested me a hotel to be very good. I resisted his attempt and told him to that hotel only by telling him the way and using google maps. It is very important to have an easy access to maps when you are travelling in Delhi
