Well it was my third time in Delhi when things could have taken an ugly turn. I arrived a little late in the evening usually I prefer daytime but this time my flight got delayed. So I took a taxi for my hotel, midway he took a turn and then we were on sort of a deserted road. I got a little scared I have to admit but then another thing happened, he stopped the car to get someone in the front seat. Now it was really intimidating so I called my friend and started talking to him. Entire time I stayed at the call and kept giving him my location. I don’t know the intentions of the driver but seeing me on phone with someone would have given him second thoughts (if he was up to something).

While catching our train from New Delhi railway station to Agra, a man posing as someone who worked at the station told us that our train has been cancelled. He informed us that we could book the next train at 7:10 (except the office didn’t open until 8:00). He then gave us the address of a travel agent and we took a taxi there. The travel agent told us that last minute tickets are not easy to come so we’ll have to pay extra money. We had to agree as we had to go to Agra at any cost. We were also charged extra on taxi fair. When we boarded that train we got to know no train was cancelled it was a scam with everyone involved in this

Tavelling in Delhi for single women is termed very risky and it turns quite true each time I visit Delhi. Most of the harassment occurs during the cab ride. Last month I visited Delhi and took a cab, the driver constantly kept looking at me through the rear view mirror. I had to mock him several times but it was of no use. Things took a severe turn when he asked if he could give a ride to one of his friend. I refused and resisted the idea but he kept pressing me to allow. But I knew what the consequences could be so I didn’t yield. It’s better to travel with someone or if necessary please keep your phones on during such rides

Reading before signing is important but it becomes pertinent in cities like Delhi. I booked a tour of Delhi from an agency after everything was finalized the travel agent brought some papers to sign. I thought it was a good thing because most of the travel agency refrains from such legal documents. He kept me busy when I was reading, constantly interrupting then I sensed something foul and started reading more cautiously and bingo!!!! There was a little clause that claimed no refund after cancellation and cancellation policy dependent on various silly things like feasible climate or availability of tickets of various places, all these were very subjective and entirely in the hands of our travel agent. I protested these clauses and made him remove them. Piece of advice please read before you sign, or it can burn a hole in your pocket.

My family was very excited to visit Delhi for the first time. We were staying with our relative so were safe from overcharging Delhi hotels but we couldn’t save ourselves from overcharging cabs. But it was all well and good for us except the overcharging auto’s and taxi’s. We hired a guide to take us and give us knowledge about different monuments. But he was sort of rushing through all the places. He took us to different shops, famous markets but always to those known to him (for earning commission). We did enjoy ourselves at India gate, lotus temple and other places. We didn’t face as such harassment in Delhi as it was hyped about. It was a nice relaxing trip for me and my family.

This time it was my worst experience in Delhi. It was my second time in Delhi when I got robbed of 90 thousand. There was an “incredible India” office just outside R K Ashram marg metro station where I made a booking about a month ago. It was a trip to Goa with my six buddies. We made the booking in a hurry but we never thought it could be a scam and we will never get to go on our trip. The office looked official and they were talking like professionals which took us under confidence. We paid the entire money in advance and now no one is there. There is no office there and now it’s all gone. They took our money as well as of some other people. I’ve booked a police complaint but no lead so far.

My flight to Delhi got delayed by 3 hours and I reached the city around 8 in the evening. I had pre-booked one of the best hotels in Delhi nearby Connaught Place. I booked a cab from the airport that evening. It started raining and my net signal was gone. The driver took the cab from very isolated places but I couldn’t protest as my phone was not working and I didn’t know the route. He dropped me in front of some cheap hotel in Paharganj, I protested but he stated yelling at me for giving the wrong address. He agreed to take me to my hotel but obviously demanded more money. I had to give him money in the end. So my advice is to pre book your cab online or from government cab booking booths to avoid such ruckus.

At New Delhi railway station, even if someone in uniform comes and tries to help you by giving you direction, don’t trust them. I realized this during my first Delhi trip. When I de-boarded my train I was a little confused as I had to find tourist information office. One man in police uniform approached me and offered me to help, seeing someone in uniform erased my doubts and I asked him where the tourist information office is. He directed me towards CP wherein I actually found a tourist office but not the official information office. It was a travel agency. All the packages there were expensive enough for me and I left from there. Then I searched online and made my bookings.

Delhiites are smart enough to exist in Delhi but for first time visitors from other cities and even foreigners it is important to be cautious while in the city. No matter how smart you are, the city has many difficulties waiting for you along with its beautiful history and monuments. I was travelling by train to Delhi and the moment I stepped out of railway station, cab drivers surrounded me. Some cab drivers even started pulling my luggage to place in their cabs. Always take a pre-paid taxi from railway station or airport. After a lot of trouble I took a taxi from pre paid counter. The taxi driver told me that he didn’t know the way and he suggested me a hotel to be very good. I resisted his attempt and told him to that hotel only by telling him the way and using google maps. It is very important to have an easy access to maps when you are travelling in Delhi

Beware of Delhi’s Sadar bazaar Pickpocketer. We heard about this market that this is cheap in comparison to another market in Delhi. I have seen this and we were happy to see the variety of product in cheap price. There was a huge crowd, people are running here and there. There is a small street full of people. we were worried about our belonging but We didn’t know that I can lose my purse with all carry money, credit card, contact or many valuable things. We started searching here and there but we didn’t find In this huge crowd. we could not find the police station. So, we decided to go with sadness and we make a promise that doesn't come to this place again. Next time you visit please beware of such thing.
