How to travel around Malé — 5 options, what they cost, and which booking apps fix the fare before you go.

1. Speedboat transfers

The standard resort transfer, 20–90 minutes depending on atoll.

Cost: USD 100–300 return

2. Seaplane transfers

For the distant atolls, daylight-only and weather-dependent.

Cost: USD 350–600 return

3. MTCC public ferries

The cheap local network between Malé, Hulhumalé and the nearer islands.

Cost: MVR 10–100

4. Velana airport

On its own island, connected to Malé by bridge and to Hulhumalé by road.

5. Malé taxis

Flat fares within the island; the city is small enough to walk across in twenty minutes.

Booking apps in Maldives

Agreeing the fare in an app before you travel removes the argument at the end of the journey, which is where most transport scams happen. Links go to each app's official page — lookalike apps are themselves a scam.

Maldivian / resort transfers

Arrival is by speedboat or seaplane transfer, arranged by the resort before you fly.
